Kid Russell

~ Kidrussellmusic.com

Everyone loves to find the next best song; the next best artist. It goes along with our inner ego, “ya know, I discovered that kid,” “I heard that track first.” Its a primal calling to beat the crowd before an artist blows up. I don’t know if I can add Na Palm or Sam Adams to that repertoire, nor do I know if I can add Kidd Russell because all three are so popular already.

My family is originally from Hawaii. I have to say, that Kidd Russell’s music reminds me a lot of driving on the “Poly” with the windows down, in 88 degree weather, listening to the radio. It’s that type of smooth beat and lyrically minded hit that has got me interested. His latest album, labeled “Backyard Heros” an extension of “The Dash” has already reached high popularity on iTunes. His most popular song “Rush Rock Remix” is something I would listen to while working out, and “Paradise” is …well…something I would listen to in paradise.

To add a little background, Russell grew up playing football and transitioned over to indie rap after college. His music has been featured on MTV 2, MTV Jams, Foxsports, and the CW. He’s been blowing up the Chicago music scene ever since. It’s time for the Kidd to come to Seattle and work his magic over here.

NA PALM

Although he may be the biggest “Brobible” alive, Na palm’s music is pretty sick. I’ll vouch for it because my ears can’t put it down. He’s been blowin up Chicago’s night life for the duration of 2010. Its electro, its hip-hop, and its grimy. “Lyrically influenced by the hip hop masters, musically influenced by the Chicago club scene, Na Palm combines both genres to create his signature sound. He started out free-styling at late-late-late-night after-hours; now he’s packing the city’s hottest clubs…and the Kid’s just getting started.” ~ na-palm.com

Socially Responsible: Arbor collective

Arbor Collection ~ transworld.net

Just like every other college student around the country and every white person (stuffwhitepeoplelike.com), I beleive all of the world’s problems can be fixed by awarness.  haha. So, here is my bit on spreading awarness about the evironment and going green. As if the word sustainability wasn’t a big enough buzz word, Arbor’s boardshorts actually are sustainable. There mission statement steps in line with their products and their goals are proactive.

“To this end, Arbor was founded to design products around the goal of replacing as many environmentally harmful materials as possible, with functional, ecologically based alternatives. The mission is to deliver performance, durability, and style in the most responsible way possible. The result must be quality and reduced environmental impact.”

Arbor ~ transworld.net

Arbor has enhanced its design for the new spring-summer collection and now features a collection of bamboo fabric apparel. Bamboo is more comfortable and more durable than most fabrics. It provides breathability, UV protection, and temperature regulation. The clothing line also comes chemical free, because bamboo fabric is naturally antibacterial and antifungal. Bamboo is naturally sustainable, and grows faster, uses less water, and improves soil.

“Bamboo Boardshorts - $56.95 to $59.95 – Arbor boardshorts are made with a bamboo nano-particle infused polyester. This technical bamboo application allows Arbor to create a faster drying and more breathable boardshort with natural antimicrobial properties that reduce odor and skin irritation. The bamboo content also lessens Arbor’s reliance on petroleum-based polymers (polyester) by 40%.  The new 22-inch design comes in three styles with two colorways each. The pockets and drainage features have all been updated.”

Take ur Girlfriend to Molly Moon’s

Ice Cream ~ Wrightangle.com

Run out of ideas on where to take a girl on a date? Take her to Molly Moons ice cream parlor. It’s as organic as it gets for ice cream. The “GF” always appreciates it when I take her there. They have wacky flavors like “Balsamic Strawberry” and “Honey Lavender.” If you don’t have a girlfriend or can’t muster up a date take that little brother you forget about at home, stuck on the couch. They have locations in Wallingford and Capital Hill.

Bacon Fried Rice

Bacon Fried Rice ~ Kitschow

When I get really hungry I like to consult one person, my girlfriend.  She will whip up some concoction, or bake some mystery cup cake, and no matter what it is, it will be amazing. My girlfriend likes to consult every online food blog known to the internet and then some. So, in turn, my girlfriend is a pretty damn good cook. The other day she went online to do some Recipe digging. She stumbled upon Bacon Fried Rice. What are the three college staples to survival? Number one is obviously bacon. Number two is eggs. Number three is top ramen or rice. Having everything I needed, otherwise I would have been dead already, I whipped up a batch. It was some of the easiest food I have ever made.

Every dude loves bacon. And every dude loves fried rice. Put the two together and its like having sex for the first time. Here’s the instructions and the recipe to…well…pretty much have sex for the first time again.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 egg
  • 2 slices of bacon, defrosted
  • 2 cups of white rice, chilled
  • 1 teaspoon of soy sauce

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Cut the slices of bacon into bite-size chunks.
  2. Whisk the egg in a bowl.
  3. Heat the wok or a heavy skillet until the water has evaporated off the surface. This takes one to two minutes.
  4. Fry the bacon in the wok until approximately two teaspoons of oil has appeared.
  5. Remove the bacon.
  6. Pour in the whisked egg and stir until scrambled.
  7. Add the rice. Crush the rice down against the wok until the clumps are separated. Stir and mix the egg into the rice. This takes 5 to 10 minutes.
  8. Add the bacon back and mix for a minute or two.
  9. Turn off the heat and add the soy sauce. Mix thoroughly and serve.

Sam Adams the new Asher Roth?

Boston's Boy

Sammy Adams “Boston’s Boy” is striking up some conversation on the east coast. While I have heard his, “I hate college” single, he’s got some other songs that have caught my ear. New England has started dropping his hits and I think it’s only a matter of time before he hits the West Coast mainstream. Sammy has already launched his album release party in LA and has hit the charts on itunes. He’s a Senior at Trinity College in Hartford, and is a native to Cambridge, Massachusetts. There has been some controversy over whether or not Adams blew up the charts on itunes with his talent or with his daddy’s credit card. Either way, I think we’ll be hearing a lot from Sammy real soon. Check out his new single, “Driving me Crazy.”
